Our green burial meadow offers an eco-friendly alternative to a cemetery, churchyard or cremation. Set in an idyllic countryside location, it is peaceful but not isolated. Our meadow is a natural burial ground, providing a resting place for those who want to minimise their impact on the environment after they have passed on.
A green or natural burial is an alternative form of interment, where people envisage that their bodies will return to the earth and be replaced by plants. Our natural burial meadow is full of beautiful flora and fauna. We have carefully cultivated our space to support local wildlife and allow nature to thrive. By choosing a green burial, you help to preserve natural habitats and protect biodiversity.
Sponsoring a memorial tree, planting a fruit tree, or purchasing wildflower seeds to be scattered in the area are other ways you can make your funeral more eco-friendly.
With our green burials, you are free to choose the funeral style you want. Services take place directly at the graveside in our natural burial meadow.
We only book one service a day, allowing as much time as possible to say goodbye. Our funerals are held in a relaxed atmosphere where you can freely celebrate the life of your loved one.
Cosgrove Green Burial Meadow is a pleasant place to visit and remember the person who has passed on. There is a family and friends seating area on site, where you can reminisce while enjoying nature.
Our meadow has a relaxed, peaceful atmosphere – offering a place of remembrance.

A green burial is an eco-conscious alternative to traditional burial methods. In a green burial, only biodegradable materials are used – such as caskets or shrouds made from natural fibres. This allows the body to decompose naturally as it returns to and nourishes the earth.
The aim of a green burial is to promote sustainability, preserve natural habitats, and support ecological conservation efforts while honouring the memory of the deceased.
You will need to decide whether you would like to have a cremation and inter the ashes, or if you would like a completely natural burial.
There are many options for the green burial plots themselves. You can choose to purchase a single plot for one person, a double plot for two people or even a family plot. Purchasing more than one plot reserves a space next to your loved one for you or other family members in the future.
More green burial options for you to choose between include whether you want to use a biodegradable coffin or a shroud. You can also sponsor a memorial tree or purchase an engraved plaque or memorial bench.
The cost of a green burial can vary, but in Cosgrove’s natural burial meadow you can purchase a plot from £400-£2400, depending on how many plots you would like and whether you are purchasing an ash plot or a regular plot.
The interment itself will cost between £160-£400 – the price of this also depends on whether you are interring ashes or a body.
If you would like to book the funeral for a bank holiday or a weekend, this will incur additional costs. More information about our prices can be found here.
Even if you do not opt for a completely natural burial, there are other ways to reduce the environmental footprint of your funeral. Read our blog about how to make a traditional funeral more eco friendly.
